Can't see how that would happen.
In about 71 I had used this trick to raise the oil pressure.
When you undo the plug you will see a spring, which will want to pop out.
Place a washer against the spring as you place the plug back in.
It just puts extra pressure on the spring and for memory there is a piston in there but gees, been over 50years now.
Well the plug has a little nipple on the inside to locate the spring onto it so it stays in place. I was thinking that with a washer there the spring would not locate on that nipple and could maybe move enough for the washer to fall out. But I guess that would be unlikely. How thick of a washer are we talking?

Whatever you have.
Start with one and see what change there is in pressure.
Also any change in rattle.
May want to try more than one washer.
I can't remember if the spring located inside the plug.
Also can't remember if I may have ground the edges of a washer to fit neatly.

edit.. what about when the spring is totally removed, could the washer go in there ??????

I've seen one where someone drilled out the center of the pressure relief spring plug, tapped it and put in a grub screw with a washer and locknut on it. Then you can adjust the oil pressure to suit using a pressure gauge.

Well I'm going to give this a shot, it still has a little bit of the nipple sticking out to locate the spring.

No luck with the washer trick. I have 56 psi when it's cold. Gauge could be wrong but surely it should be enough. Still isn't consistent, sometimes it's 1 valve, sometimes it's 4. They just don't seem to want to pump up solid.

Time for a set of solid lifters and anti-rattle springs under the rockers ?
Keeping the adjustment correct will fill in your spare time.

Well I would like to be able to adjust them, however I want to know what the issue is before throwing anymore money at it haha.

Is there any thing that could cause the lifters to not fully pump up other then a bad pump? There is no play in anything and the lifters have pre load.

Like a couple of others here, been a long time since I farnarkled a 186 / 202.

You oil pressure is OK, and doesn't vary, ie jump around at constant revs. ?
Rebuilt oil pump ? Used to be as cheap and available as potato chips. Probably gold plated now.
The push rods not spinning is a bit ............ different. Dust-off memory :( ............ does the oil reach the top of the push rods ?
Dodgy new lifters ?
