WH Statesman 5.7 LS1
Hi everyone, i’ve got a 2000 WH Statesman with a 4L60E auto with a stage 2 shift kit. not sure if this is the reason why, but when shifting through the gears the wheels spin and chirp through every change. it’s got all brand new tyres and the right size with an LSD. don’t think this is normal, anyone have answers?
Cheers

Trans oil too thick? Wrong type?

No idea but doesn’t a stage xyz kit sharpen the gear change, which if set up poorly can sometimes lead to harsh gear changes and tyre chirps?… Guess it’s fun when 1st installed but gets old very quickly.. just like noisey exhausts…

I'd be cautious...Officer Plot hears the wheels chirp, he might get annoyed and take the car for a month

Might be wise to get it to a trans place and see what they say, because I don't really know

Shift kit should firm up shifts but at the end of the day it should drive normally when driving normally.

Sounds like the line pressure has been increased too much. It'll put heaps of strain on the trans

They didn't turn the screw up did they? That will cause hard shifts and it's not something reputable place will generally do. Once it's turned up it can't successfully turned back until you rebuild the transmission.

Unless it's been modified so it has max line pressure always.

But isn't that something you only generally find with full manualised transmissions?

Upgraded servo will give you 1-2 chirps with increased apply pressure on the band. That's pretty normal and an easy cheat mode that doesn't do any harm. 2-3 chirps not so much as that's a clutched change so you must have overly high pressure and a couple of slack springs in the valve body. If you're getting 3-4 chirps thats the band again and your box is going to grenade

Long story short, take it back to the place that fitted the shift kit and explain what it's doing as it's not right.

Generally, but can be done in auto still, you drill out the sandwich plate in a few spots to increase pressure across the range and/or certain gears.
