the method you show is inferior as you can get over 5mm difference.
How many bee's dicks are there in 5mm ?
The ride height on my CV8 around the car varies by up to 5mm using the top of the centre cap method.
Should I be worried ?

No.
But in saying that any method should work.
It's just that people proclaim that certain way is best when there is a superior way.

So moving a tape measure at the wheel arch, whilst it is stationary at the base of the rim is a superior method...

Remind me never to take your advise

I'm thinking the current rig might be a closer fit. I have a set of 17's for any off road work, well lower than SL, guards rolled, they're custom steelies made to fit the VT-VZ platform. 275 rears, 245 fronts

I used to do it different the 7 years I spent in suspension.
We would get the tape and measure from the bottom of the rim, the rim, not the wheel (people call wheels rims) through the center cap and have the tape above the guard so you can move it back and forth a little to get the exact measurement.
the method you show is inferior as you can get over 5mm difference.
With centre of hub to guard it removes any variation of wheel diameter size or tyre wear

I believe your method would give different reading between different sized wheels, handy for getting one car with the height and rake required if you have the same size wheels on the car, not so handy when comparing a car with a 17" rim to a car with a 18" rim, as you would see a 1/2" different between them

There's plenty of other joints that recommended measuring from centre of hub to guard to remove any variables

Start at around 2:40

But then I'm not a mechanic, I just use advice given by subject matter experts

Yes you are correct.
But you can actually do both measurements because the tape travels through the centre hub.

But it's irrelevant if you're doing a before and after measurement.

Ahhh , so now one method is not superior to another method ......................... understand now.
All same-same, as long as you use the same method for comparison.

I am not even a mechanic's empty lunch box, I just use my noggin to do things.

Sorry I'm not the best with English, but I didn't really mean one way was the most superior.
I was trying to say that if you use the rim it's 100% repeatable whereas if you use the centre your hand is floating around a little brining in errors.
