VS SS Commodore 1996 Speedo not working

Wasn’t it the plastic speedo cable connector or the little gear that would break in the cluster? Or was that VN-VR?

The odometer gears break but the speedo still works when they do.

VS is all digital. No mechanical gears at all.

It’s not the series but the luxury level that determines the cluster type. Berlina/Calais/Statesman/Caprice gets digital display windows (Level 3), others get the non digital displays.

Yeah VT. The S3 VS were still the 3 window styles

Does the car have a speed alert in the dash? (so not the level 3 one which has trip computer etc buttons)
There is a way to put that speed alert into a Speedo Mode.

Would that be possible to rule out some signal issues etc?
