Hi, Has Anyone had much experience with these diff centres, im wondering if this one is too far gone.
As you can see in the pictures the cones are worn down very far to the point they have been bottoming out in the housing for a while.
Would i get away with throwing in a new set of cones and shimming it up? Or does the housing look too damaged? Thank you

Definitely some wear there but I'm fairly confident it's saveable. There is heaps of meat on the friction surfaces on the cones, just machine down the faces on the cones so that when they sit in the housing there is about .040" clearance. Then shim it up and it should be good to go.

Never pulled a diff apart so I can’t really offer advice but just as a throw away comment, I always thought that once mating materials start galling then it’s time to replace them… or so I thought?

Some good pictures in the following (non JC) thread but it’s tedious to see them as they don’t pop up automagically (so I needed to copy a few link and paste into browser on my iPad)… Those parts I looked at don’t seem to have any galling whatsoever, so in my mind = rebuildable  but galled parts /= rebuildable :oops: ?
