VSII Caprice seat relay clicking while car is off

Good evening, all, Keep coming to my battery being dead flat in my VSII Caprice, was working on the car recently and it sounds like a relay is constantly clicking in the seat while the car is off, it just clicks on/off rapidly at random intervals, I suspect this is causing a current draw issue...

5L running like a bag of willies

I'm sure the bananas aren't the best option for boost, but remember with a centrifugal supercharger I won't be making peak boost until 5000 RPM+ If I go a big manifold that flows more, I'll lose the benefits of the bananas down low when the centrifugal supercharger is only generating a few...

5L running like a bag of willies

If anyone's concerned about banana manifold, watch this: I've got a centrifugal supercharger there for the boat anchor, bananas aren't as bad as people think - especially on stock stroke and low end applications like mine. At the moment she rolls over at 4200 RPM, then it wants another...

VSII Caprice - front brakes halal

I've got an Autel diagnostic scanner, it can interface with the ABS module on the car, clear codes and read live data but not actuate the ABS pump to do a bleed - absolute turd of a thing. I'll see if there's an update for it which will let me do some extra functionality, but given the car is...

VSII Caprice - front brakes halal

Thats going to be a pain in the ass because you can't use a scan tool anymore - car has an aftermarket ECU, nor does the aftermarket ECU have an ABS bleed function. I triggered the ABS a bunch of times by jamming on the brakes on a dirt road to cycle the pump heaps.

VSII Caprice - front brakes halal

Went to go wash it and I've now got virtually no brakes, super spongy pedal and it requires like half to 3/4 the pedal travel to pull up the car from about 20km/h. I've bled the brakes including the ABS module by activating it lots, but I cant seem to get the pedal to stiffen up.

5L running like a bag of willies

Yeah I can, I think they don't like being run as wasted spark either. The protection of the coils is nasty, if you run them too hot they will fire themselves uncontrolled to stop them from cooking. So you get uncontrolled ignition timing which isn't exactly what you want. They're absolute...

5L running like a bag of willies

Yeah I think I'll change over to wasted spark at some point to free up four outputs from the ECU So I can get my AC back, I'll keep the sequential injection though.

VSII Caprice - front brakes halal

You're on the money I reckon, the hub ring was rusty AF, was a bit of a **** to get the wheel off. Requires further investigation, brakes are certainly the most shitful they've ever been. Its got ceramic pads and DBA T2 rotors. Also feels like I've got side wall of tyre touching body of...

VSII Caprice - front brakes halal

Oh, I took the calipers off and reattached them, all the bolts are 'FT' None were loose, Will have to check that out, and see if we have movement, seems strange the passenger side doesn't move what so ever but the drivers side flops around like a cock in a sock.

Alright so update here, I did absolutely nothing, and didn't drive the car for nearly a year and it fixed itself :) Fired it up today, ran like a swiss watch.

VSII Caprice - front brakes halal

Good evening, all, Fired up the old shitbox and gave her a bit of love today (service). Taking the RHF wheel off and having a bit of a goosy gander, we've spotted this: Ignore me jocks being used as a rag for all you train spotters out there, The RHF rotor is very loose inside the caliper...

5L running like a bag of willies

Here you go - 8x ignition coils Absolute waste of time, money and uses up all your IO on your aftermarket ECU (takes 8x outputs just for the ignition coils), they also **** the bed on the regular if the waste of time, money and IO wasn't a good enough covering of sprinkles on the ****...

5L running like a bag of willies

Car has 8x 'LS2 truck' coils (ACDelco D585) on it - big mistake. The car has been set up for boost, its been converted to sequential injection and ignition, probably should have just used LS1 coils or those IGN-1A smart coils. Still haven't had a look yet, weather has been ****, but rest...

5L running like a bag of willies

Thanks gents, I'll pop off the covers and report back in this thread, have a bit of a look, can I run it with the cover off for a bit to see if everything is moving properly? I've had a bit of fun with those ACDelco D585 ignition coils - I've killed three of them in about 15,000km over the...

5L running like a bag of willies

Good evening all, Got this horrid metallic noise happening from the ol' 5L and it feels like its running on 6-7 cylinders. Drove fine, parked it overnight, couple days later, fired it up and it was doing this. Its a metallic banging noise, and a popping noise, sounds like its coming from...

    VS Caprice speaker sizes

Good evening, all, Had my VSII Caprice for 6 years now, and the previous owner fitted a head unit, replaced the front and rear speakers, and done some shitful wiring for the fronts that run through the door jam. However, I notice that the majority of the sound comes from the tiny speakers in...

Owners handbook engine specification page for engine oil.

Mine got super liftery on the dyno with ACDelco 10W50 fully synthetic in it when I first got the car and serviced it, it also ate a fuckload of it, I went to Nulon 25W60 high zinc mineral and no dramas since - also VS 304 with 135,000km on it. This is what I use...

P plates? Even an LS1 is a boat anchor in stock form, at least compared to modern cars anyway, its only when you start throwing the usual mods at it that they wake up.

What size do interceptors come in?

I've got an enquiry in with custom steel wheels in Adelaide about modifying a set of VE/VF interceptors for me I've just seen they sell the barrels, and looked at their social media presence, hell they could probably just build a set of 16x7" interceptors and spray em silver. Supporting...

    Benefits

Surely the usual intake, full exhaust and diff gears would give it some pep, the VN-VS cars are very light compared to a VT onwards so you have that on your side too. This will probably give you best bang per buck - even comes with a memcal...

    Benefits

Haltech Elite 2500 can control a 4L60E. Its not worth going an aftermarket EMS unless you plan on taking it further with things like forced induction, I've got a Wolf V550 in my VS Caprice, I've only got it because the car is set up for boost down the track.

Ah crap - that makes it difficult to test fuel pressure, its so easy on the VT onward.

What size do interceptors come in?

I think there's another issue - apparently VE/VF wheels have an M14 stud and pre VE wheels have an M12 stud - can anyone confirm? https://www.drive.com.au/news/wheel-warning-for-commodore-20061214-13ztj/ I'm assuming the extra 2mm in the holes might cause drama?

    Lets talk VS brake upgrades

Thats a good lead, I know the factory VE rotor is 298mm, SS variation is 322mm, it could be worth looking into if the Police versions had bigger rotors. IS there a difference between VE SV6 and VE SS caliper? Rotor size is 298mm vs 322mm povvo pack vs SS rotor.

Is that vacuum a bit low for the brake setup? I'm aware VE has a little electric vacuum pump: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/154090964980 Could be an easy retrofit to fix any dramas, just have it on all the time with ignition.

Unfortunately I can't interface with the ECU at the moment, it uses a fucken old 9 pin serial port for communication and the software only works with old versions of Windows as well. Lets talk VS brake upgrades

Something was modified by previous owner, not sure if its cammed but it made about 160KW/rears @ 4200 RPM on an otherwise stock VSII 5L, but it makes about 14-18inhg at idle going up to 20inhg at 1750 RPM Its tuned, I've put a Wolf V550 in it and converted it to sequential injection and...

Oh nice, I suspect he is using this rotor: This matches all the other specifications with the thickness of the VE rotor but with the VT-VZ offset, unfortunately I think I'm **** out of luck and will need to go to 17" wheels, was trying to keep 16" and go to modified 16" VE/VF...

    Lets talk VS brake upgrades

Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm hesitant to move to VT calipers, only because I have to change the booster and master cylinder to suit, where as I think I can keep the factory VS setup with the VE calipers - I've got a bit of an issue with clearance between the master cylinder and the ABS...

    Lets talk VS brake upgrades

Good morning all, No doubt I'm not the only one who has experienced the shitful brakes on the VR/VS cars, so much so they can't even lock the wheels on my Caprice and trigger the ABS on the road when you give it all the brakes it has with decent tyres on it. Looking into upgrades for the...

Vs commodore v6 Hard Start Runs ok

I'm not sure if I have my wires crossed but I'm pretty sure there's a schrader valve on the fuel rail on the Ecotec/L67 (or it might just be the LS1), you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge to this, I had a customers car doing an extended crank on start up and what it was, you'd go to ignition...

    Bad News for VR~VS Owners

What size do interceptors come in?

Thanks for that guys - that would explain why as I found wheel and tyre kingdom but its them selling their own product under a different online business, maybe they want some separation there. I'll reach out to them - even if they can just source a set of VE/VF...

What size do interceptors come in?

Thanks for the suggestion - have tried to find them on google but no luck? Are they still around? Shame about the BCI wheels being junk, they seemed promising. Also if I wanted to go the VE/VF ones and have the centres machined, what size would the centre need to go out to? I'm assuming the PCD...

What size do interceptors come in?

Nah the Ford term is 'chasers', I more commonly see 'interceptors' used in Holden context. 'Steelies' refers to the plain black ones and chasers/interceptors is the Ford/Holden version of the silver steel wheel variant fitted to police cars.
