VY SS Ute (Jimi Hendrix)
Yeah I agree, I've driven a few current gen Rangers and Hiluxes that drive just as nice as my VE Ute.

Gone are the days of bone shattering suspension. Dual cab utes these days are family cars rather than dedicated work horses. About 50% of the people that buy them are families and not tradies.

The build quality and interiors etc had to be up to scratch for normal commuting duties not just hauling tools to site.

My old D22 Navara was bone shattering, you drove over a pebble and your head would hit the roof but these days they are just as comfortable as any other car on the road.

Mine is a work horse, but I drop the canopy and load up the off road van for holidays so there is plenty of comfort.

Does not bring the same smile to my face as driving Jimi the VY SS Ute though.

Seeing a Commodore on the road will eventually be like seeing an FJ, FC or EH!

Good to see it used for as intended but no doubt you carry a decent amount of weight in tools? Problem is, most don't and a vehicle that is designed to carry heavy loads unladen handle like crap.
Yes, without the load the constant load springs make it handle less than I would prefer. But it is either loaded with tools or pulling an off road hybrid van. I look at the RAM 1500s running around as family sedans and shake my head a little.

Cheers n Beers

Once upon a time, we had station wagons, which are old fashioned ............ now we have SUVs, because that is the world buzz word for a station wagon.
Compare the pair on paper, there is not much difference............

Holden HR wagon > 3.0 Litre > Length 4487mm > Width 1778 > Height 1486 > Wheelbase 2692 > Track 1369 / 1394.
Mazda CX 30 SUV > 2.5 Litre > Length 4395mm > Width 1795 > Height 1540 > Wheelbase 2655 > Track 1565.

Power, torque, weight & fuel consumption ?

HR Holden 186S wagon > 108Kw > 249Nm > 1250Kg > 9.4L/100 (based on what I used to get from my HK 186S on a trip last century )
Mazda CX-30 2.5L SUV > 139Kw > 252Nm > 1565Kg > 6.7L/100 ( based on what my daughter's new car got a couple of days ago.)

Pricing for a HR 186s wagon back then $2,600 ??? , about $37,500 now.
Her CX- 30 $41,000 drive away.

Yeah my 2014 Mitsubishi Triton single cab and tray handles like a Billly cart when it’s empty, and you almost need a lumbar support belt to keep your spine in place!

VZ Crewman, VZ Cross 8, & ya mum.
I love our Hyundai Santa Fe Highlander. Same platform and drive train across Kia/Hyundai. Luxury beyond the old Calais V. No way the Red Crewman keep up with it easily.

There’s also no way I’ll buy another GM car again after the **** show of killing off Holden and robbing the Australian Gov of our tax dollars.
