I currently use Optus 4G mobile internet because I don't have a high download demand and no active phone line is connected to my house.

Nearly every time I use the computer, the 4g connection seems to drop out and I end up with WDCMA only, which is totally useless.

I'm in a 4G area with Optus and when 4G is connected, it works well.

Anybody got any idea why the 4G fails so often? I've wondered whether it's something to do with peak demand, but the problem occurs at all hours of the day.

Sounds like a network issue.

Without calling Optus the only thing you can really do is try another device with a 4g connection and see if that drops out.

If it doesnt you know its your phone playing up, If it does you know its Optus. (to a degree of certainty anyway)

Well, this interesting. I have found that the problem persists when I use Chrome as my default browser, but when I reverted to IE8, the problem seems to have disappeared and 4G remains operable.

Soooo....chrome has been consigned to the internet dustbin, at this address, anyway.

It's a 4g mobile internet modem. The little dongle type that plugs into the USB port on my desktop pc.
