More cars than I've got space to park!
Found this for sale on an auction site while looking around, note that this is not my car.

http://www.carnetauctions.com.au/cp_veh_Inspection_report.aspx?sitekey=CSS&MTA=133338

The reason I post this, beside it being rare to see one for sale, is that there's something strange with the engine number advertised, a MY09 LS7 engine should have an engine number prefix of "SAY" but this car is listed with the engine number "SBC082830669"

The "SBC" prefix is used for an LS3 6.2L HSV engine. Maybe it's a typo, or maybe they read the wrong number off the block (or maybe I have my info screwed up), but I'd hate to see someone pay $120k for a W427 that's had the motor swapped out so wanted to bring it to any potential buyer's attention.

For the search engine:
Registration No. 146WNS
VIN 6G1EX55E09L313527
Engine Number SBC082830669

Well Bigfella237 I think you should ask if engine number is right.

Thanks Pete,

Yep that's more like what I'd expect an LS7 engine number to be, so either the auction has mixed up the numbers from a different car or this car, for some reason, has had the LS7 replaced with an LS3?

With only 10,000 k's on the clock you'd reckon that if it was replaced under warranty the owner wouldn't accept an LS3 as a replacement engine, so maybe it was stolen and stripped, then rebuilt by the insurance company?

As you suggest, I might shoot them an email and see what they have to say, if they expect to get $120k for this thing then they need to get the details correct, or disclaim the replacement engine? That would make a HUGE difference to it's value!

Andrew

EDIT: Inquiry sent, will update if answered.

In the meantime, BUYER BEWARE!

I happened to look around there on Saturday, I don't know about the engine numbers, but it's an immaculate looking car, as it should be at over $100,000

I received a reply from Mikey @ Carnet Auctions this morning, who said:

...regarding your email enquiry on our HSV W427 that we have here, the details that we have on the engine number is incorrect, the correct one is SAY32271180 as to what you have seen. Thank you for the heads up on that, Is there any other way we could help out with your enquiry?

I note that the webpage has already been updated, however the number shown is still incorrect (it's missing the "7" from the end), but that's their problem, at least that suggests it still has the original engine fitted, which was the thing I was concerned about.

If I was buying this car I'd still want to check it with my own eyes, but yeah, it's a very nice looking car and probably a good investment if you kept it long term.

I wonder what it would be worth in another 20 or 30 years if you could preserve it as is? (No doubt cars will all be self-driving and powered by harvested fart gas by then!)

Have to love paying $150k for a car with **** panel gaps and mismatched paint.

In regards to the engine, you can just see the top of the oil reservoir on the passenger side of the engine bay.

A Dino Ferrari is a good car investment, I don't think a W427 will be. Let's say you keep it for 30 years and fork out 2K annually for rego and insurance, you have now reduced the profit on investment by 60K, you would need to sell it for 170K just to get your money back.
