do the 3 plugs on the level 1 & 2 dash have the same pinouts as the level 3 dash in the vr vs model

got a level 3 dash from a swap meet part no starting with a s

will the level 3 dash work without the trip computer panel until you get one

picked up a level 3 cluster harness to get the 4th plug and the trip computer panel plug

yes but you will not be able to change the display as the panel you are talking about is just the switches for changing modes it has no computer in it at all

basically you need to wire up the 4th plug to the existing wiring harness as per the diagram in the tripin thread mentioned above.
you can put the level 3 cluster into the existing harness.
you will have speedo, taco ect but the 3 lcd screens wont work until you wire the 4th plug in.
as trikky said, what you are reffering to is the switch block. this is the black faced plastic box that goes int the dash next to the cluster where your speed alert would go.
