Auto shifter upgrade
whats a good choice for upgrading the standard VN 4 speed auto shifter to something which is practical with trans upgrade but looks sort of stock/classic looking

I run the B&M Megashifter.

It's gated like the stock shifter from park to drive, but ratchets from 1st to drive so it gives you the best of both worlds.

Even on a rarely driven vehicle, I find full ratchet annoying in a street car.

I've had a Pro Ratchet, Aeroflow Bangshift, and TCI fast gate and the megashifter is my favourite so far (I change shifters and camshafts as often as I change my underwear), with pretty much any aftermarket shifter using a shifter dropbox from somewhere like muscle garage you can fit it under the factory console.

I made my own console insert as I wanted it to look a bit cleaner, but plenty have done it under the factory setup, you can use things like a GSS-3000 and a build ninja shift indicator plate to make it look pretty much factory and retain the P, R, N, D locators on the factory console.

This is the build ninja setup that lets you keep it looking stock-ish.

The box is not manual shift, so just need the racket function sometimes
The ninja setup looks nice, needs to pass road worthy so needs the indicators etc

The build ninja setup works well and keeps it legal.

My megashifter has a mechanical indicator (it has a slide style indicator driven off a cable on the shifter), I just prefered the traditional look.

And I agree, ratchet is nice when you want it, but thats not all the time.
