Hey people, I had been coming to this site a few times..
I just bought myself a VB Commodore sedan, needs a bit of work done to it:

Body Respray,
New Tyres,
A little rust in the boot (minor),
New stereo..
and a few other things I can't think of.
post your thoughts

I certainly couldn't disagree with suggestions coastvl has given.

I would be inclined to do something about the rust firstly no matter how minor, your going to have to do it when you respray or get someone to spray it. Are you spraying it yourself?

Before doing anything like the stereo you may want to check the condition of the motor to make sure you don't go out spending stacks of money to then have a problem which you can't afford to fix. Most people take this into consideration but me personally I tend to impulse buy especially when it comes to the car.

Well, I won't be buying a stereo for some time, I'll probably buy a cheap CD player for a couple of years, as I want to get a sub-woofer in the back etc etc..
I will get some Kill Rust on the boot and other areas, recommended by my brother.

BTW: just to tell you, my father owns a VP Commodore, that has been jacked up (for towing purposes), has cheap mags on it, and all original interior, My brother owns a VH Commodore (which my father drives for work), the VH has been slightly lowered, has Holden Mags, original rear seats, and a blue motor. (I don't know what type, except it's a straight 6).
Here are some pics taken.

hey, I just had a friend of family around to have a look at the car, to see if the car was mechanically and structually sound. He found a hell of a lot of rust on the little stepper (I don't know what to call it) on the front drivers and passenger side, I think he called it the trim or sill..

I will be selling the car for parts in the local Trading Post.

ah, rust and a boot, i love it, i had that with my vl, thought to my self, hmmm,i ll just slap about some kill rust. it did nothing, only way to get rid of rust, is cut it out. ill run this past ya, you ready, intro to electicity 101

rust, a common fault with electrical instalations. what causes rust, well, when voltage moves, it moves from + to - it's as simple as that. but the flow of electrons go in the other way, - to + hense it takes some of the little metal moliculse with it. you cant stop rust, it's imposible to stop rust, all you can do to slow down rust is to rust proof your car, all that is about is spraying any exposed metal part's of your car and keeping water off, here is a little experiment for you all to try, it's kinda cool,

get 2 peices of metal, any type will do, has to be a metal, not solder or alloy of any sort, , get a 12 volt battery, 10 litres of water, and a cup of salt. right

place 2 peices of metal away from each other, they cant touch. put salt in water and put the metal in that, using cable connect 1 peice of metal to the + and one to the -, wait for 10 min's or so and youwill notice that bubbles will start forming. go away and come back in 2 or 3 hour's, and youwill see, you have got rust on the one connected to the -, if you can come up with a solution to the rust problem well, good on ya, and let me know, im trying to figure it out myself to stop car's from rusting.
there is actually more to it than that, but that's just the idiot's guide to rust, understand that, and you understand rust
