Hi I've got a VT SS Commodore series 2 with LS1 Gen 3 was giving it a bit of a thrash taking of when it tried to change into second gear there was a loud bang and lost forward gears it has reverse still but no forward think it's a standard transmission but has a shift kit fitted any ideas on what might have gone wrong?

Has the fluid ever been changed in the transmission? Hopefully it isn't completely stuffed because of the loud bang, and loosing all forward gears...

Nahh, most likely a mechanical failure. See

As you can see in the drawing, the reverse input clutch housing is the very first thing that goes into the transmission behind the pump and converter, something further back in the transmission for the forward gears broke which will still allow reverse to work.

Another chart that shows what is applied when (clutches/bands etc)

Probably a mechanical failure then... You could rebuild the transmission or even manual swap it :)

Been doing a bit of research and found that the 4L60E has a problem with the sun shell and probably stripped the teeth causing the loss of forward gears so definitely needs a rebuild but the sun shell probably needs to be upgraded and looking at the sonnax sun shell upgrade but not sure yet any thoughts or options on the sun shell upgrade would be great thanks.
