You may find it hard to believe but we still have an old school 68cm TV.
Some time soon i want to upgrade to to a reasonably high end LCD around 50 - 55 inch.
What are your tips? Are there any that stand out about the others. Is it worth getting 100Hz ?
Don't watch much sport, but hate the drag and blurr you get on crap TV's

Want a clear and lifelike picture with good internet features

I'd go Sony any day of the week, Samsung products have a reputation of not lasting.

As an Audio/visual enthusiast i would recommend a Sony if you are going for a LED tv. Sony use Samsung Panels then pair them with better graphics engines ect. I have the previous model Sony KDL-55W900A and it it brilliant.

Wow I'm surprised there is a consensus towards Sony.
I like Sony but you don't hear too much about them these days other than in a lot of their stuff they create their own brand stuff that doesn't fit with the common stuff.
Agree Samsung can be cheap and nasty sometimes but you don't hear about many issues with them.

When it comes to LED TV's there are only a few top tier companies that make them. You have Samsung, LG, Sharp and Sony. These days Sony are making some of the better LED TV's, Samsung is ok too but some of their tvs are very average.

I'm currently looking into a new TV also. From all the reading I've been doing the Sony's are the way to go. I've had a 37" Samsung tv for about 6 or 7 years now and it's been fantastic...but it's a bit small in the room I've got it in now and I sit much further back than I did when I bought the tv. Currently thinking I'd like the Sony KD65X8500. Is there any reason you haven't considered a 4K tv mate? Given you've obviously had your previous tv for many years and you're after a high end tv now, why not future proof yourself so you can keep your new tv for many years to come?

Yes our old Sony had it's 10th birthday last year, was repaired with a new guts after a lightening strike a few years back and is still going strong!
But, obviously it's small, is not widescreen or digital ..........

I don't think it's worth buying a 4k for the price. Got too many renovaions to do this year..... and there will no doubt be something better than 4K around in a few years. Plus i don't want my kids watching TV all day long, something the Sony 68cm did a great job discouraging lol.

I've got a 55'' samsung UHD smart no 3D and the SMART works well, many a nights spent watching Baja/Dakar in HD flawlessly
and the smart function works well as a normal pc for all browsing fb/forums/porn ;) etc

Just on Samsung, When I got this 55'' led , I gave my 58'' plasma to my oldies (great picture sh1t smart function, only apps no browsing)
anyway about 6 months later it shat it self, was 3 1/2 years old. lucky I had extended warranty, they couldn't fix it,
but the warranty people argued with Samsung re not having parts available to fix, and they got Samsung to give me a full refund ,
which paid for the 55'' more or less.
