Thanks for your help though... The handbrake chime would be the most annoying of all chime

I also work out how to make it chime when the headlights are left on after the is ignition turned off. :)

LOL - yep - leave the lights on and it chimes :)

Also I suspect that you need to have a Series 2 voltage regulator in a VQ S2 cluster. The voltage regulator I sent up to you has a date on the small part on the narrow end. I think the one I sent you will be '88 or '89. I dont recall what yours was dated - but it was the series 2 style with the wires bent over and soldered (the early ones where straight).

I think the '88 unit let your chime go off - unless it was faulty

I remember the date clearly on my regulator... 12/92 :)

The one you sent, I couldn't see a date but there's serial number: 39845/2

The voltage regulator is the PCB board inside the cluster behind the tacho/speedo.

If you have the handbrake chime going off all day then PIN No 1 will be cracked - almost 100% sure of it.

But do check all the solder joints with a magnifier - any little crack will = fail at some point.

Working the VN VP L2's now... Fitting VR Gauges :)

Shane_90 and I put a VQ Tacho in his Lvl (VN/6) 3 cluster..and it works.. LOL!

The vr to lvl 2 should be easy, pull up and in the other ?
Tell me how ya go!

Also! With his old Tacho, it falls right to 0 .. even when car is going, you need to tap the dash.. but once you take the foot of the pedal.. it drops to 0 and needs another bang to move again lol..
What would cause this? Im thinking a broken resister somewhere

The VQ tacho should work as long as it was a VQ V6 - V8 unit will read wrong....

The VN/VR gauge swap is 100% a goer - I've made 6 up now.

The tacho is dead :) - if it drops to zero while driving and the replacement is all good.

Does the chime need to be wired into one of the dash connectors (and do I need to run an extra wire to the handbrake) for the handbrake chime to work ?

My dash briefly chimes at me when I turn the key but there's no handbrake, low fuel or overspeed chimes so is this another sign of a dodgy joint somewhere ?

Probably a petty thing but having ensured all the cluster, switchblock, heater, etc lights work I want to have the dash doing everything it should as well, including this handbrake chime.....:D
