Driving without my Keys?!?!

So today my 07 EX Highway Patrol has some feature that i stumbled onto today went to turn it off and and accidentally pulled to early and the key came out while the engine was running the stupid thing is it didn't wreck the ignition barrel car starts fine i drove home without the keys in the ignition with them in the drink holder...Anyone have any ideas why this is? Police feature or something? i'm baffled

either key or barrel is worn i say very handy if you want to use the keys to lock/unlock doors saves turning the car off

Barrel isn't worn it flicks back and dosen't appear to be broken i gathered its a cop feature if they need to have there car running while chasing someone they can lock it real quick saves alot of time turning it of ripping the keys out drive on patrol without keys and keep the keys in his pocket or something

Yea i got a spare i'll give it a crack tomorrow not gonna do it tonight ahaha
