According to "lion king" the commodore was to sit between the Opel Senator (replacing the Diplomat) and the Rekord. So the naval name kinda fits.

A bit of trivia... according to a book called "The Holden Heritage", in October 1978 when the VB Commodore was released, one of the hit songs of the month was The Commodores - Three Times a Lady.
