hey guys, title says it all! unfortunately my 2004 VZ will need this costly repair done.
I've done a little research and cant seem to find a mechanics website that specializes in replacing timing chains that aren't based in VIC or the Gold Coast.
can anyone point me in the right directions?

Any reputable mechanic can do it , suggest you ask around your area .

ignore me as you like since my vx has not needed one while I've owned it , but........ I doubt whether you are going to find mechanics advertising a specialisation for a common job on a Commodore. See above Post ^^.

You're in Sydney ? I've heard of it.

lucky you! i should of taken my friends advice about not getting a VZ and sticking with a VX or VY, ohwell lesson learnt.
i did a little more research and found that the mechanics that advertised specially for timing chains were a hell of alot cheaper then the local guys. When i took it in today to the local mechanic he called me back after an hour of dropping it off only to tell me that its fucked and would be a massive 4k job compared to online sites doing it for half that. But unfortunately most of them are outside of NSW.
but thanks for your advice anyways, appreciated! :)

MIDAS did the timing chains on our VW Passat and Jetta $1500 each, compared to the marque dealer asking $2,600 ... go figure!!
The mechanics local to me (they service my VZ) do all Commodore timing chains but quote $2,300 and 1.5 days (VX, VY, VZ and VE)!
I cannot account for the wild discrepancy other than the provision of using genwine Holden parts as opposed to chain sets from the aftermarket.

I paid a small fortune a few weeks ago for Holden to replace my ECU. Being genuine, it's got the warranty (2 yrs 40k). I take comfort in the warranty component - maybe if you think about that as well. Have you got a quote from your local Holden dealer workshop?
