2004 Monaro suspension thingy?

Anyone know what the gold cylinder things are that's connected to the front suspension struts.

They are Remote Reservoirs.
Common upgrade for 4wd's......Off road racers also use these types of shocks.
Basically driving over very rough ground for long periods with gas shocks can cause them to overheat and they can aerate.
Aeration is when the oil and gas in the shock mix due to heat build up and the constant motion of the shock.
This aeration isn't good as the shock looses it's ability to dampen and your ride gets bouncy & you experience shock fade.

The Remote Reservoir Shocks solve this problem because with an external reservoir, they have an increased fluid capacity for the shock.
This increase in fluid capacity helps to keep the temperature of the fluid lower in the shock and avoid the bouncy ride from shock fade.
So in theory with remote reservoir shocks fitted you can drive longer & harder over rougher ground without shock fade.

....never seen them on a commodore before though....

Thanks Matt, its one a 99,000 $ Monaro with 47,000 ks and never seen a dirt road nor any dirt.

As above, it's a feature on high end shocks (not just for off road use either).

Ohlins remote reservoir shocks, were fitted to a HSV vehicle.
