Holdens final sales warranty only five years.

I've just seen the Holden final sales clearance ad and it states that the warranty will be five years. I suppose that makes it easier to eventually clear out altogether.

    RIP Holden brand name.

Well, we predicted it and it has happened. It was announced today that the Holden brand name will cease to be. The Lang Lang test ground and the design Centre are to close and up to 800 jobs will be lost. I didnt catch the date this will happen.

    Internet moron.

I've been involved in a "debate" today with a bloke who thinks Wheels magazine was biased in 1979, when it failed to award the Car of the Year to the XD Falcon. OK, that's his opinion, but this fool actually believes the former editor and writer, (Peter Robinson, I think), should actually...

    Brake pad and disc life.

I know there was another thread posted recently about how far brake pads had lasted but I'm trying to approach this issue from another angle. Not necessarily just concerning Commodores. What is a "good" expectation for standard factory pads on an auto trans vehicle weighing approx 1700kg...

    Driving license on phone.

Opinions regarding licenses now being available on mobile phones? My view is its a contradiction. We get hounded daily about not using phones while driving so now the powers that be introduce this idea. Can anyone else see the contradiction, and the risks, involved in this idea or is it just...

    Ravings of an "auto expert".

I have keep names out of this thread for obvious reasons, but recently I've watched a number of videos on YouTube posted under the auspuces of an "auto expert". Those videos cover a few years and in the earliest ones, the person concerned comes across as a forceful, if opinionated, voice putting...

    What's the truth?

This country keeps getting blasted for its performance reducing carbon emissions. Global warming is by far the biggest discussion item in so many arenas and I, for one, am getting really tired of hearing about it. Scomo addressed the UN last week and spoke about what we have done so far and...

    Was the Alloytec a dud?

Those of us who have experienced Holdens over many years know that Holdens have been fitted with a multitude of 6 cylinder engines. Until the Alloytec, the only really "advanced" engine was the Nissan six in the VL. While the other engines were basically unrefined, they were reliable. In the...

    Body filler rejuvenation

I need some advice from the panelbeater, painters or scientists on this forum. I have a large tin of good quality plastic filler which is barely used but is going dry in the can, even with the lid sealed firmly. Does anybody know what can be added to the filler to restore its correct texture...

I've reported three Vietnamese posts from 3 different "new members" this week. Clearly, it's spam. Can it be blocked in some way to prevent this annoying garbage recurring?

    ANCAP ratings

After seeing the ad on TV recently showing the collision between a 98 Corolla and the 2015 model, which is used to demonstrate the increased safety of modern cars, I started to think about how cars are rated as years progress under ANCAP. The highest rating is five stars, but cars have been...

    Fixed speed camera infringements.

How many of you have had this experience? Some years back my daughter received an infringement notice for an offence detected by a fixed speed camera. The letter basically said "Your vehicle was detected on the M4 motorway at Liverpool at 9am on Saturday yada yada yada." Well, no it wasn't. It...

    New car crash TV advertisement.

A new ad aimed at advising parents not to buy older model cars for their kids has recently started playing on TV. It involves filming of a staged head-on between two Corollas, a 1998 model and a 2015. The difference in the extent of damage between the two cars is graphic, with the 98 model...

    Advice regarding wheel colour.

I have obtained a set of these rims. Three are in good condition but one needs repainting. The colour is a very bright silver, almost like a natural metal finish. I've painted another set of rims in the past with Holden Quicksilver and this silver is much brighter, with a stronger metallic...

New V8 VF 2's still in dealers' yards.

I was looking though Carsales today and decided to see if any new V8 VF2 Calais were still on sale. I was a bit surprised to find that there are still 3 or 4 listed, one with 10km and another with 23, plus a couple of demonstrators. The VF2 went out of production nearly a year ago. Who would...

    Future Classic?

If you look at what some "traditional" older Holdens are worth these days, it makes you wonder if any later model Commodores will ever appreciate to similar levels. Ordinary EH and HR Premiers, which were as cheap as a few hundred bucks twenty years ago, are worth ridiculous amounts today...

Are COB paints suited to our climate?

In the area around me, many cars with metallic paints have massive sun cancers, with all horizontal surfaces suffering heavy peeling of the clear coats. A lot of these cars are not very old, perhaps 05/06 models or even later. All makes. It strikes me that COB isn't as durable in extreme hot...

    Solar power experience.

With all the debate on climate change we have seen on this forum over recent times, I'm wondering what members have done in response to rising power bills and adopting renewable energy sources. Last September, I decided to go down the solar energy route for a number of reasons. Obviously...

Your best experience in a Holden.

Now, this is opening a can of worms, so a couple of ground rules before we start. 1. No legal motor racing events. Not interested in your driving prowess on the track. 2. No back seat conquests. Not interested in those either. So, no doubt we all have incidents that occurred at some time...

    Power take-off point for accessories.

I have a strong aversion to having power cables draped from dashcams or GPS units hanging down to power points in the console. Usually, the leads aren't long enough to be stowed behind windscreen trims and down pillars to reach the socket and my car isnt suited to setting the accessories on top...

    Contaminated fuel purchase.

My son has a 2014 Diesel Sorento. Yesterday he refuelled and this morning, the car commenced to run badly and the warning light for water in the fuel illuminated. The car has been towed to the Kia dealership and the fuel has been analysed and found to be contaminated. The cost to drain and...

    Chevrolet (Holden) PPV on television.

I was watching a US cop show recently and spotted a Caprice PPV in quite a few scenes. In another show I'm pretty sure one was wrecked by a crash-through at a road block. Anybody else noticed PPV's in TV series or films?

US makers not so popular in Hawaii.

I'm lucky enough to be holidaying in Hawaii at present and the car scene is very enlightening. If it wasn't for trucks, SUV's and Mustangs, you would think that US makers were not interested in these islands. Toyota's, Honda's and Nissan's seem to have the market almost to themselves. The...

    Shaking in my shoes.

Has anybody else on this forum been "threatened" by Shonky12? He's engaged me in PM'S following my comment about his age in his latest thread. His fourth message had a comment that I don't know who I'm dealing with and implying he has some special treatment in mind for me in company with his...

When will the last VF 2 sell?

On another thread, there has been a great deal of discussion regarding the purchase of VF2 V8 models before stock runs out. It's pretty obvious that the last new VF V8 will sell well before the last VF2 V6 goes and probably before Commodore production ceases altogether. Holden claim that they...

    Advertising covering reply text box

I've just placed a reply to a thread, which had to be shortened because a "rolling"Woolworths ad covered the latter part of the text box. There was no way I could see of getting rid of the ad, nor could I work out how to move it out of the way. Any clues how to rid oneself of this rubbish? I...

Death of the Falcon and Territory

OK, i know this is a Commodore site, but the Falcon and Territory cease production on Friday 7th October 2016. Eleven days' time and Ford stops building cars in Australia after nearly 80 years. The FGX Falcon is a pretty rare sight on our roads - it seems as though Australians have forgotten...

Advice on tracking down family of deceased former girlfriend - NSW.

OK. One from left field. They say that the first love never really dies. After an absence of over thirty six years, I think they're right. My first girlfriend and I started our relationship in early 1970 and it lasted for about a year or a bit more. We both worked for the same employer...

    Idiots, thieves and dolts.

Old Holden Factory Shop Workshop and Parts Manuals for sale

A couple of weeks ago, I was visiting the local parts shop for oil and noticed a pile of old workshop manuals on a table for sale. Amongst the pile were early genuine factory manuals (not Ellery's or Gregory's) for the FE, HK, a couple of HQ supplements, and a parts catalogue for the HJ...

    Will you still be interested?

Something different for The Pub. As a person who has lived and breathed Holdens since first getting a preview of the HK range in January 1968, nearly a month before they were released, I'm still coming to grips with the thought there won't be any more true Holdens by 2018. I've learnt to drive...

Samsung Note 2 mobile phone problems

My Samsung Note 2 is just over two years old. Until recently, it was connected to Virgin, which uses the Optus network. I reside near the vineyards in the Hunter Valley, about 40km west of Newcastle. In early this year, the Virgin service was reasonable, I'd give it about 8.5/10 for access...
