VY LS1 swap trans harness question

Hi Yoda - yes I have been a member of this forum now for almost 20 years - back in the old VN Commo days. It is still cool to see my old thread about sorting out sticky temp and fuel guage issues is still a sticky after so long ;) Some good news on this conversion though - the new ECU/wiring...

    VY body plug PCM plug

Yes just spotted that reply with the link, downloading it at the moment. I don't have a PCM, as this harness is being used on a VY LS1 that has been fitted to a 1982 XJ6 Series III Jaguar. The engine harness & ECU were from a Victorian wrecker, and came out of the same VY Calais. I have been...

    VY body plug PCM plug

Hi - can anyone assist with this issue? I am looking for the pinout diagram for the large white connector in the below pic - its on a VY 5.7 LS1 auto harness. This section looks like it is fitted on the inside of the firewall. There are 2 plugs - the large white plug and the smaller black...

VY LS1 swap trans harness question

All good, I appreciate any genuine help and advice about this stuff. One of the sources I found on this forum took me to Dirty South Race Engineering - and a detailed pic of a Gen 3 harness and associated plugs. This 12-pin transmission plug that I am looking to identify, is referred to as a...

Questions re. LS1 motor & transmission...

No its a full system front to rear, with cat converters installed. The Jag previously had a 350 Chev / TH400 conversion, so the back section of the exhaust was already in place. 2 mufflers directly in front of the diff assembly and 2 mufflers located behind the diff assembly. All the exhaust...

VY LS1 swap trans harness question

thanks for the confirmation on the reverse light plug. Have also been advised that the large rectangular grey plug is for the inhibitor switch on the trans? The wiring section attached to that plug is only short and looks like it needs to be attached to the transmission or close to it?

last phots - LS1 on the way to get exhaust fabbed, exhaust done and dusted. It was tight around the steering column but they managed to get a nice Try-Y extractor system into a very small space ;)

Yes I asked a couple of specific questions about the wiring harness in that thread. The posts here are in response to old mate asking a question about the complete conversion.

VY LS1 swap trans harness question

OK thanks, that does help. Here is a pic of the 3 components on the wiring harness down at the transmission end...... the big round plug has a corresponding socket in the 4L60E trans - its the other 2 plugs that I am not sure about. A small 2-pin plug (reverse lights possibly) - and the other...

VY LS1 swap trans harness question

Hi all, looking for some advice about an engine/trans swap I am doing to an XJ6 Series 3 Jaguar. The engine is a VY LS1. Trans is a 4L60E. I have just purchased a complete VY ECU/wiring harness combo, to fit the LS1. The issue is simply this - the VY auto harness has the big rectangular grey...

Hi Brendan - yes its an old thread and yes I am still working on this conversion. Been a lot of progress since the last updates - the exhaust system is now fabricated and fitted, the engine & trans are in the vehicle and a tailshaft has also been fabricated. I am currently working on the...

V6 VN has no spark and wont start

You need to get this sorted out ASAP, as it will be a definite source of problems. The motor has to be earthed properly - all the sensor plugs, injectors etc need the motor to be earthed properly.

VR fuel tank into VN ??

Wortus - I found 2 T-fittings in the filler neck area ? My VN is a Series 1, March 89 build - maybe on the real early ones they had a different set-up to the later VN's ? I didn't block up any of the barbs - just fed the 1 small breather tube from the VR tank into that plastic thing that is...

VR fuel tank into VN ??

got an update on this one - the old VN tank was definitely split along the seams, checked for air leaks with compressed air - it was like a sieve ...... The VR tank only has 2 breathers - the large one going back up to the filler neck, and a single smaller one. Getting the old tank out was...

Will VN series 2 motor fit in series 1???

Hi Moser, The only mods were to a couple of sensors which are located on the rear of the motor on the S1, but on the front of the motor on the S2. The wiring for these is found on the injector harness on the drivers side - all I did was cut a couple of sections out of the S2 harness and...

VR fuel tank into VN ??

thanks for the tips Wortus & JXW  - much appreciated. The tank is coming from a mate who has fitted the VR V6 into his Hilux. I can get the whole unit - straps, fuel pump etc etc. If I have to modify the plugs for the wiring (fuel pump and guage sender ) - this is not a big issue as...

VR fuel tank into VN ??

after sorting out the issues with the fuel pump in the S1.......there was a smell of petrol wafting about when I pulled into the driveway yesterday. Thought it could have been a bit of a weep from the fuel pump gasket.......so reversed up onto the car ramps to have a look underneath. FMD...

VN fuel pump / fuel supply issues

OK thanks for the tips - our LPG install has a LPG gas gauge on the lower dash, with a switch to switch between LPG and fuel. Normally - and this has been the case since the install back in 2005 - when the switch is on the LPG setting - the car always starts on fuel and then switches over to gas...

VN fuel pump / fuel supply issues

thanks for the help  got it sorted late this afternoon. Relay tested fine and getting a solid +12v at the wiring plug for the pump. Fitted pump again - heard the pump working when the ignition was turned on and getting fuel pressure at the line up under the bonnet. Wortus I had a...

VN fuel pump / fuel supply issues

Hi - have had a look at the threads on fuel pumps for the Series 1 - didn't find the answer I was looking for....... VN calipers accept BIGGER HZ pads!

Cool  thanks again. I am not sure how thick the backing plates are on the 1023 pads..... One thing that I still struggle with though - is the 88% figure for the 1" m/c quoted, for line pressure at a given force on the pedal, compared to the smaller m/c. Why would a 1" m/c be stock...

    VN starting issues???

When I replaced the s1 motor in our VN with a S2 motor - all the earth connections to the chassis were cleaned as part of a general 'overall' cleanup of the motor etc - before it was fitted. The car starts really easily now, its basically 1 crank and away we go - that is in Canberra and it gets...

Would a exhaust system save fuel

as Big Al says - a properly-tuned exhaust system will flow better and you will get improved fuel economy, all other things being equal (driving style, tyre pressure, condition of motor etc). The $64,000 question about 'how much better' actually depends on how good or bad your current exhaust...

VN calipers accept BIGGER HZ pads!

nicely played  Its always good to see some accurate calculations done with these types of mods, maths is a pretty exact science.... What is interesting is that the 94% torque figure for a given pedal effort.....I wonder how much additional torque is generated by using a 1"m/c instead...

VN calipers accept BIGGER HZ pads!

 thanks for the reply, appreciate it. At this stage some new 290mm disc rotors are still a couple of paydays away and I still have to find some V8/VL turbo calipers anyway before the brake upgrade can be completed. Will be looking forward to some better brakes that's for sure. The...

VN calipers accept BIGGER HZ pads!

I have split up your reply to look at a few different points, as they are all interesting. Firstly - why would you say that this is not as simple as the amount of rotor surface used ? In my experience (admittedly with m/cycles for 30+ years) - it pretty much is as simple as the amount of swept...

    What's wrong with VN brakes?

Back in the day - 70's - yes, you could machine bike discs. They were generally massive steel discs up to 6mm thick, a lot of them with a minimum thickness of 4.5mm That was a long time ago - these days, not one brake shop I know (with 1 exception), will touch bike discs with a 10' pole. If...
