Trans pan Derale T700R4
Will be running derale an which uses cooling tubes going through pan to help cool ATF
The pan takes standard length 700R4 filter however has the added volume of ATF under and around the cooling tubes approx adding 2 quarts extra
Will weld into side of pan 1/8” NPT temp sensor as this pan was new old stock and newer pans come with temp sensor bung already installed
https://derale.com/product-footer/transmission-pans/cooling-pans/14204-detail

Opened up the trans pump
Looks good no heavy scratches in pump body
Has 10 vane pump will be upgraded to 13 cane in the build

It's actually really good a trans builder will do it with you. Most places would never entertain something like that.

Immortality, yes mate its a good deal
I spent 2 hrs with him yesterday and he went through each item of the build with options and approx. costs of the items. Will charge flat rate for the labour
The added benefit he is very easy to talk to 100% straight up no BS
There was another guy there who races and is looking for similar set up

Anway's I've got my stuff ready now except for:
  • Bung in trans pan for temp gauge will go with 1/8" NPT that way engine sump exactly same
  • Output shaft needs to be cryogenic treated after 15/1, and I'm away on 14/1
I'm lucky the trans is in excellent cond, as he showed me a few V8 trans which weren't that good

Head oil drain backs
  • 3/8" x 18 TPI (NPT) tap turned up few days ago
  • finished tapping the back of head this morning
  • a little grinding around the 3/8" NPT-Male AN6 fitting to get the head some clearance, as will be using 3/8 NPT Male AN10 90 degree bend so may not need to grind for clearance, however all good
  • waiting on the fittings which are in post
  • once positioned in place will then smooth the radius on inside to suit the contour of head

Transmission: Hybrid 3-4 drum and friction plates
Had a decent look at the hybrid 3-4 clutch drum and friction plates and compared to the friction plates removed from 700R4

New drum friction plates larger in diameter and wider
5.90” Dia x 0.472” wide x 8 friction and 8 steels

Original 700R4 friction plates: 5.73” Dia x 0.366” wide x 6 friction and 6 steels
That’s + 50% more surface area which has to be good for you

Had to wait for fitting, then weren't happy with the 90 degree fitting in head, got more then went back to original purchase. Finished Left side as this is most difficult with hose weaving around the headers.
Will slip over the hose some insulation just to help reduce temperature in case hose moves around and touches exhaust
Head was drilled, tapped for 3/8" x18 TPI, NPT Male to AN10 male, then epoxied into head
Need to round off hose nut edges to slip by the head when tightening
Now to assemble first head, then work on 2nd head for the same result
Happy how it turned out
-10 all the way through to pan
Had to weld another AN10 fitting on to pan and then used the existing drain back that was on pan for RH side
another job down
was thinking of getting the engine sump and auto pan powder coated gloss black

Welded the 1/8" NPT female fitting into the trans pan for temperature gauge

Auto 700R4 rebuild
Try and drop pan off to powder coater tomorrow before I shoot through to Europe for 10 days then focus on getting that trans built when I get back.

To save any others confusion.
You drilled 14.5 mm and tapped for 18 TPI npt, which has an ID of 3/8" (as NPT and BSP are standard sized by what they flow).
Does that sound correct?

Travelling around Germany in small German town Grobalmerode held up in family penision / hotel for weekend
Was participating on foundry/ alum diecasting show earlier in week
Talking to company who reversed engineered Ferrari V12 engine block for older car
Didn’t realise how tight those cylinders are together

Euro 14000 for the machines block
Plenty of snow up this way

There is still a liner to go into those alloy bores so they won't be quite so close. Looks to be a "wet bore" liner so they should be reasonably thick I'd imagine.

I remember as kids we were heading off to Yugoslavia for a holiday and we ended up stopping somewhere in the Alps at a little mom and pop B&B. I miss European winters and Xmas.
