I wanted to let in as much light as possible because there were no windows in this part of the building. However I needed to reduce the size of the opening for two reasons. Firstly as you can imagine, I needed a plumb straight edge to be able to fix my frame work to, and the best way was to build a brick column either side, as seen in the pic. This then worked well for the double opening doors with a short span of weather boards and then a window, which is actually just another door because it was just simpler rather than making or buying a custom made window.
