VT-VY GEARBOX Compatible?

Hey guys,

I have a VY SPAC S2 Ute that has a VT Motor in it with a 9HFD auto transmission that needs replacing.

Can a auto 4HFD (Vy tranny) work with the VT Motor?

V6 Ecotec. I’ve heard they do fit & they don’t fit.



Can a 4HFD auto trans replace a 9HFD auto?

Probably best to call an automatic shop and double check.
But usually no, they might physically bolt up but the difference will be in the electronic valve body.

OK.

Lets decipher a few things here. First things first, the transmission. 9 refers to the year of manufacturer so the 9 means 1999 and the HFD is the transmission model number. Now it would seem that someone has already done a engine and transmission swap into a VY model which really should have a 2,3 or 4 (been 2002 or 03 or 04HFD) transmission in it from the factory when built.

So a 4HFD transmission is what most likely should have been in that ute, all V6's use the same bellhousing bolt pattern and torque converters etc so there really is no reason why it shouldn't fit.
