    Remove harmonic balancer pulley bolt

$564. They're a bit more spendy than some brands but pack a punch for their size and good quality.

    Remove harmonic balancer pulley bolt

I can confirm one of these works very well. https://www.milwaukeetool.co.nz/power-tools/impacts-and-fastening/impact-wrenches/M18FMTIW2F12-0.html Fits easily with the fans removed. I took mine off recently at around 420,000 km.

    Vxr staggered rim/ tyre size

I think it's the rolling diameter that's important. While I don't see the point of having different width tyres on a car like the VXR (it has very good road holding with the standard set up) you might find the rolling diameter is the same front and back. You dont mention the aspect ratio. If...

    Issues with VY'S

Leak into spare wheel well fixed. Putting some sealing gunk (plumbers putty) where the rubber seal fits over the seam and re fitting the rubber seal did the trick.

How to test vy ignition coils with multimeter and other advice for shuddering 03 v6 vy

I'd be leaving checking the coils for now. If it idles OK then I'd say the coils are likely to be OK. Sounds like the insulation on a plug lead breaking down, but first check that the plug leads are properly fitted to the plugs and that the ceramic part of the plug where the leads fit over is...

VF S2 or ZB, what to buy

The ZB V6 has active fuel management. I don't know about being able to turn off the Adaptive Cruise function. The Adapative cruise is only on the VXR and Calais. You can turn off the auto Stop/Start. Handling and performance wise the ZB is all over the VE V6, (my wife has a VF S Z series) and...

Joining the ZB crew - 2019 LT 2.0L long term review thread.

Sorry, I've not had time to have a look but 39 is probably a good place to start. I got onto the tyre pressure solution when I took the car in to have the tyres rotated and mentioned that the car had grown a tendency to tramline. Straight away they said the problem is probably tyre pressure...

    Issues with VY'S

Same here. Won't leak for ages then bingo it leaks. I suspect it's coming in around the door seal. Had this issue with the back doors just after I bought it 20 years ago. That got fixed under warranty. Been getting water in the spare wheel well recently. I had a look at this today. Looks like...

    Issues with VY'S

It's probably the blanking plate gasket. I put up with mine leaking for several years till I had to do the gearbox last year. I backed the radiator cap off to the first notch. This slowed to leak down considerably without any noticeable side effects. Just keep the water topped up. In my case...

Joining the ZB crew - 2019 LT 2.0L long term review thread.

Check your tyre pressures. My RSV with the 18" rims tramlines when the tyre pressures get low. Also my wife's VE Z with 19" rims gets really horrible to drive when the tyre pressures get low. I don't mean low that the tyres look like they're low , just low by a few PSI can make all the...

    Vy Overheating issues

Most definitely check the routing of the belt to ensure the water pump is turning the correct direction. To my way of thinking if there's no water in the top hose then there's probably no water around the thermostat which means it probably won't open. It also means you likely did have an air...

    Shudder in throttle

I might be wrong but I thought the timing chain issues had been pretty well eliminated in the later variants of this engine. I'd be hesitant to rush into replacing the timing chain.

My ZB RSV makes a whine just as you describe with the air-conditioning on. I think it's normal. Otherwise it works well and cools things down really well.

    Second hand ZB's

Was news to me too when I saw that. I see it is a "Black Edition" perhaps that was added to them but I kind of doubt it. How easy would it have been to transplant the system from the wagon? There were a couple of other things too, like the 2.0 litre turbo being more powerful than the old SV6...

    Purchasing a 2020 ZB calais

Yeah, I guess the BMW engines and gearboxes must be built in the US too, like the Commodore engines and gearboxes are.

    Second hand VXR

If you drove the car to it's limits on windy roads you might end up with tyres that wear out like this. One reviewer stated that in his opinion it would see off a WRX. These cars can go pretty damn well. I'd say on the right roads they'd leave a VE/VF V8 behind. My RSV did about 54,000 on the...

    Second hand VXR

First off I have an RSV which is much the same as the VXR but without the 20" wheels, sun roof, LED lights, VXR mode, active cruise control and one or two other comfort features. Running gear wise they are the same. The wireless function can be added easily with a dongle. I have Android Auto...

Are ZB 2 litre Petrol Turbo's reliable ??? Any common problems to look out for ?

I remember the Corona Amon, they were a good car and handled well due to the local suspension tuning. I'm not sure the current day Camry is in the same league. I agree I think there is a place for the V8 but if you look at the home of GM, the US, sadly there are very few, if any, family cars...

Are ZB 2 litre Petrol Turbo's reliable ??? Any common problems to look out for ?

From about 2012 the relacement for the VF was always gong to be the ZB. The only thing not decided was where it would be built, Australia or overseas. The removal of government incentives was a big factor in the final decision. The only reason there is a V6 in the ZB was because Holden insisted...

Are ZB 2 litre Petrol Turbo's reliable ??? Any common problems to look out for ?

Correct, the diff is only in the V6 AWD models. I'm not aware of any specific problems with autos with the exception of the swarf problem. As far as I know they are as reliable as any other auto.

Are ZB 2 litre Petrol Turbo's reliable ??? Any common problems to look out for ?

I find it interesting that other than Smitty and myself none of the other responders to the initial post have owned a ZB. While the ZB was manufactured in Germany it is made up from the GM parts box. It is very different beast from most European cars. The LGX 3.6 V6 engine (a development of...

Are ZB 2 litre Petrol Turbo's reliable ??? Any common problems to look out for ?

Must be an Aussie thing to knock the ZB. The Buick guys love the 2 litre turbo Buick both in AWD and FWD. The guys I know personally with a 2 litre ZB love them and have had no major issues. The engine is strong and at lower speeds is quicker than the V6. There were some gearboxes with...

    VXR Reverse Camera

The resolution on my RSV is as good as and generally better than any other reversing camera I've seen/used. I doubt the VXR camera is any different to the one on a RSV.

3.8 V6 Using coolant - LIM gaskets recently replaced

I should have reported back earlier. The problem was the water pump. There was a very minor leak on the shaft seal which wasn't noticable. I had a new pump ready to go on as I had replaced the idler pulleys and had noticed the pump had play in the bearings. New water pump, no water loss. :)

What to buy to replace the ZB?

This is a question I've exercised my mind on too, though only as idle speculation as I have no intention of changing cars. I haven't test driven any so cannnot make the same level of comparison you have, but I have come to the same conclusions. Poor choice of suitable vehicles, don't want an...

What to buy to replace the ZB?

I'm guessing that was said with tongue firmly placed in cheek. Other than for it's prodigous boot space the VE/F is well in the dust of a ZB. We have one of each and I drive both regularly.

3.8 V6 Using coolant - LIM gaskets recently replaced

The LIM gaskets were replaced about 3-4 weeks ago by a garage who did another job on the car. Since then the car has started using water. About 400 ml per 100 km. There are no signs of a leak anywhere. I suspect the problem might be the LIM gaskets even though there is no evidence of water...

Oil dripping from bottom of bellhousing

Thanks. I see your picture has sealant in other places as well. Is that necessary in addition to the sealing strip on the rear cover gasket or just precautionary? So the million dollar question. If I were to get them to remove the gearbox and the rear plate and refit the rear plate with a new...

Oil dripping from bottom of bellhousing

Background. 2003 VY 3.8 V6 manual Gearbox has just been out for overhaul. Previously had a water leak with water dripping from bellhousing. I concluded it was the rear blanking cover leaking. For the time being I had reduced/pretty well stopped the leak by backing the radiator cap off to the...

    Vy serpentine belt number?

Sorry if I sounded ungrateful, I didn't meant to be. I'd been on some of those sites already and got conflicting info. I pretty sure a 2003 VY with air com=n uses the 6PK2815 though I see Bosch do a 2810 which is what I currently have after some intensive looking on my current belt. I'm...

    Vy serpentine belt number?

Where did you find that? The Gates catalogue linked above comes up with this; 92100691 6PK2805, on page 301
  38. 8

    Vy serpentine belt number?

Except they quote the wrong belt size; Serp. 6PK2830. See page 91 of the catalogue. One possible explanation is perhaps the idler pullies they also quote are a slightly different size from original thus requiring a 15mm longer belt.
