    Extreme Weather!

Minus 3 overnight in Canberra - with apparent temperature -5.5 deg C. Glad I stayed in Sydney with a balmy apparent +2 deg C at 7.30 am. (Faaark). Goulburn apparent -7.4 C at 7 am. How about we send more East Coasters over to warm up and buy some houses while we're over there?

    Things that p*** you off/bug you/annoy you

Your CTP is cheaper than mine. Must be where you live or my risk profile is higher? For my SV6 this year with zero demerits, postcode 2102, no commuting, the cheapest insurer is YOUI at $414 and GIO at $423. Rego is same price though.

VF Calais V Wagon sound system help

Yes. I remember going through this when I was serious about car sound. My lounge room sub also has this feature.

    VF parts shortage...

Shame you're in Queensland. I haven't used Gumtree since I bought something interstate which had to be posted. (Yeah I know, always buy face to face on Gummy). Never saw it - at least my bank transferred the money back. Though I'm sure you're more trustworthy than Mr X in Melbourne ;) .

Damn - that's a nice tidy setup. Makes me feel like getting back into car sound.

VF Calais V Wagon sound system help

Yep same. I stopped mucking around with car sound in the late 90's when the systems got more integrated so it all got too hard. Prior to that I used to bore people silly with my installs. Added to my hearing starting to miss some frequencies around the vocal range. I blame the workplace (but...

    Blindspot Monitoring Evoke

Aha - this reminds me of the wise words from an ex Prime Minister - it suggests “detailed programmatic specificity”. (Although I think at that time it was spoken in regard to climate change action not a VF Commodore's BCM).

JC Political Thread - For All Things Political Part 2

Yeah I wouldn't and I doubt you would either. But it doesn't seem to bother our pollies who will always say at the start of the planning that these latest games will be revenue positive.

JC Political Thread - For All Things Political Part 2

Luckily the Melbourne Commonwealth Games were abandoned as early as they were, before the money black hole increased in mass.

    Front wheel bearings

I couldn't ignore the noise any more. The left side corresponded to the side my wife kerbed hard a few months earlier, during school pickup. The pickup spots were "competitive" and the kerbs were very high. Created a rubber flap on the tyre at the time (became the spare). Coincidence or what?

    Front wheel bearings

It worked for me when I had to work out which rear wheel bearing was fked on my Adventra. Luckily the carparks in Mandurah still had wide open spaces and a smooth surface back in those days. Not a nice job to replace - the guy who did it told me all about it.

Temperature Sensor Stuck on "Cold"? - VF SV6 (Series II)

My top coolant hose flattened out and the level in the radiator was scarily below the top of the tubes when the engine was cold. The radiator cap seal had changed shape, but looked OK at first. Changing the cap to a genuine one got rid of this issue. Check out some of @Fu Manchu 's submissions...

JC Political Thread - For All Things Political Part 2

The familiar argument here is that they can't be returned to their home country, if they face serious charges (including the death penalty) upon return, as a consequence of their activities in said country. Because (something something something) we need to protect their rights. Thus, we need...

    VF Wagon window belts

    I call them weather strips.

    VF Wagon window belts

That makes sense - I reckon the belts go all around the circumference of the door openings. Looking forward to the OP updating.

Window belts? Not sure what they are.

Sudden Loss of Power Steering WHEN DRIVING

I filtered the list from https://www.vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-000535 for 2016, and I get this small list. Therte may be a better list and there may also be an internal Holden list?

    Torque Converter Issues

Didn't think of that one. And don't want to use one of the miriad of "other and less popular" browsers you see on the evening news, associated with hoodie wearing males.

Calling on the Shannons (or similar) insured V8 crew, can I have a price check please.

Allianz won't insure my SSV in Sydney. Am I too high a risk for them, despite being old? NRMA, which should be similar to RAA are hell expensive for me. GIO is $750, with a $795 excess and choice of repairer.

    Torque Converter Issues

Hi Shannan, best to have a discussion directly on the forum. I'd like others who know more than me to be able to add their experience and recommendations. Can't see your DM by the way. There are other forum threads on this topic, but largely around the gearboxes behind the V6s.

What next will they try to flog for stupid money ???

Yeah that makes more sense. Even $10k is a covid escalated price, would have been much lower pre-pandemic. But surely he/she would check the listing is correct? I would.

Help with shudder on VF Calais V S2 2015 V6

I guess I get frustrated when questions are posted, then the OP disappears. Knowing the outcomes and fixes would help other forum users in shortening the fault finding process, myself included, as I may be chasing a similar fault. Working out if it is the transmission or ignition/injectors is...

    Torque Converter Issues

What are your symptoms? I assume that you have a V8, so have the 6L80E. Most of what I have heard about in regard to VF torque converters is related to the auto on V6s.

SSV Redline Manual post attempted theft issue

The cheap **** OBD2 device I bought from Amazon and used once did exactly that. Flashed up "service power steering" etc etc. Tried to start car - nothing except comms messages on the dash. Removed device, car worked. Luckily my other scan tool (somewhat better device) cleared the multitude of...

SSV Redline Manual post attempted theft issue

A company I worked for installed a hidden switch for the power wire to the fuel pump, in all the company cars. It was wired to/from the cable run under the sill cover. (EL Falcons/Fairmonts). Made it hard for an opportunistic thief. It meant you had to push the hidden switch with one hand whilst...

Here we go in Sydney again! Rain and more rain. Fark - waiting for the Wakehurst Parkway to close. Surprisingly it's still open. Will be a long trip home.
