Thanks - I should have known. Is the new stick flexible? Could it be hitting something inside and deflecting? Is there enough of the old stick to check with that instead of the new one? Do you know (or are there) any "old style" trans shops or mechanics near you? Traumatics were pretty popular...

OK, I meant if you could compare the old and new dipsticks, from where they seal/mount into the gearbox, to the level markings - to make sure they are the same length.

Ancient thread I know, but just to add, my VX (avatar picture) still has both remote fobs, working, and on their original batteries... I have replaced the buttons on both. That's all. 2001 VX.. Now 2024. Yes, the car's has been driven. It was my work car, now still my daily, with 352000 k's.

Reading through the thread, my money is on the dipstick. You said it was replaced. Why? Do you still have the old one? Just so you can compare the two. If not, maybe beg/borrow/buy a standard one? Even just for a check. Wreckers maybe? Have you driven on any long trips so that the fluid can...

How many k's has the car done? Are the roads in your most-travelled area generally rough? Might just be shocks?

Not wishing to drag the pain out any longer, but why was the trans replaced? Self-interest here with 352,000 k's on mine.

Thanks for letting us know. Looking back over the thread, the evidence was there. I suppose you wouldn't like to tell us who the specialist was? (or whether the mechanic who referred the gearbox back to them, actually did?) There's heaps of 4L60E's out there. Shouldn't be hard to get right -...

Thanks Lex. Re the alternator, I ended up fixing the original VX one. New brushes and bearings. Been ok for years.

Hi All. I am researching engine mounts for a project. LS1 hydraulic mounts might be suitable, but I need to find out some dimensions. 1: the diameter of the mounts 2: the distance between the upper and lower mounting surfaces. 3: the length of the threaded securing studs. Thanks in advance.
