Hi Dave, took the car to transmission specialist they said it was an odd issue as car drove perfectly fine in all other gears so they found it was a transmission valve body check ball which had fully worn down and become stuck in separator plate blocking 1st gear.

2017 calais V automatic lost 1st gear, was able to drive in sportsmode to service centre and they couldn't run diagnostic codes. Got car home in sportsmode, left for 5 hours now have 1st gear back. Cant get into holden service e centre close to me until end of March for diagnostics. Read up...
