When diagnosing 'no start' problems, you have to divide the problem into two parts : Is it a fuel problem or a spark problem ? To ensure you have fuel, pour half a cup (approximately) of fuel into the intake and crank the engine. Give it a few seconds to suck through the petrol vapour.. If you...
Upon inspection today I saw a tiny bit of red radiator coolant sitting on the drivers side intake manifold, so I'd say my problem is definitely those gaskets.
Thanks to Immortality here, who directed me towards that. I shall also fit a trans cooler in series with the existing one.
^ Ah ! My confession may be bearing fruit !
For a little while now, I have had a small amount of oil collecting in the valley between intakes. It creates a very small amount of "hot, almost burned oil" smell.
I was not sure exactly where it was coming from. Recently I carefully tightened down...
Erm.....my brain freezes up during Winter (seriously...it's a sleep disorder due to the shorter days), and I absent-mindedly put windscreen washer fluid --a non-foaming detergent--- in the coolant overflow bottle, instead of the washer fluid bottle, then topped it up with water and wondered why...
I think a good qualiy new radiator would be more than $ 100, wouldn't it ? (HMMM....just did an Ebay search and they range between 100 and 250 bucks)
And don't forget I am not just disconnecting the in-radiator cooler.... I think an external trans cooler is an improvement.
Previously I have...
Thanks to a few of you for your concern. I need to be doing a trans fluid change soon and shall do it ASAP.
From the looks of the radiator, and the fact it has only done 170,000 well-maintained Ks, I feel that it will be okay if I just block off the coolant pipes after fitting an external...
No...the radiator looks excellent, and although I suspect that trans oil is going into the coolant, I have been meaning to fit an external cooler for a while, in order to increase the life of the transmission. Heat kills them, and this is Australia which is getting hotter every year.
I know...
Does anyone know the internal diameter of VY auto trans hose ?
I am just about to fit an external cooler due to trans fluid leaking into the coolant, and I want to tee up getting the correct size new hose (I will be using double hose clamps on each connection), and also check if the secondhand...
Lately the weather in Brisbane has been continuously wet. Not a huge amount of rain, but just for a long time so that everything gets thoroughly damp.
After sitting unused and __not driven in the rain at all__, my VY started misfiring and although it only has 160,000 Ks, I figured it's time to...
I have a 2004 VY series 2. When I unscrewed the nuts holding my transmission cooler hoses onto the radiator I found that a 19 mm spanner was really quite loose, but an 18 mm was too small to fit.
Surely they are not imperial ? I cannot see a comparable size slightly less than 19 mm in a...
Thanks for your replies, gentlemen. The problem has been resolved. I drained it OK this morning and put in the correct amount of fluid. Car now drives very well.
Must have been foaming caused by the overfill, which apparently happens......I Googled it and implosion causes foaming.....
I ran it for about a minute....3 times.
I had been wondering about running it dry, but the engine and trans are only idling, so I thought it would be OK. It's not really dry for that short time....there is residual oil lubricating the components.
Anyhow, thanks for your answer....I will take it...
I have a VY series 2, and today I attempted to change the auto transmission fluid myself.
I undid the transmission hose at the bottom of the radiator, put the car in neutral, started the engine and trans oil got pumped out. I put more in, and flushed it out the same way.
All good.
Then the...
I am going to fit an external transmission cooler on my VY, to extend transmission life.
Has anyone here done this ? Where would be the best place to mount it, to avoid stone damage but still get good air flow ?
