This is the clearance I have at the moment, the stands have another few notches left in them. Will get tape measure out tomorrow but I reckon it will need to come up more.

Yeah I'll prob have to get it off the jack and onto the floor, then pull it out and tilt the rear to fit the bellhousing out from under the car.

Car has been on stands for the past month, I'll take it down today to measure the stands etc just to be certain.

Can tell you just by looking at that with the sump on, the bellhousing won't clear. The V8 bellhousing is very pointy at the top and catches on everything on the way out.

Thats what I suspected. Some googling tells me the 4L60 is about 20" tall, so that's around 51 cm.

Just say I can get the car 46 cm off the ground, I could either tilt the box up to get it out from under the car.

If I put some pavers or wood under the stands that would give me extra height.

I recently bought 3T axle stands as they are a bit taller for more ground clearance.

The one Lex linked is one I'm looking at.

They most likely all come from the same China factory, might be worth the gamble for $70....

I think I'll probably make my own, although the basic design looks ok in my humble opinion it adds to much height.

Once it's down slide the trans off onto a piece of cardboard or a bit of sheet ply (or similar) and then pull it out from under the car so you don't need quite so much ground clearance.

edit: or find a friend with a hoist.

Yeah these ones I have a 3T, will measure them today.

The plan was to get a four-post hoist for my shed but I never pulled my finger out to get it done as other expenses got in the way. An option would be to wait until later in the year, or next year to get the hoist then continue with the swap.

In Vic we have a self service garage that you can rent a hoist and tools so you can work on your car if space doesn't permit at home.

Might be something to check out if it's a thing NZ does too.
