Its just such a weird contradiction with Shannons, with my club permit cars they're great. Every years the value goes up and the price goes down. With the Maloo they just lower the value each year even in a time when the values of these are skyrocketing.

Found out Ryno won't touch me, RACV offered me a value of $12k. So I will try enthusiast tomorrow otherwise I'll have to try my luck upping my value with Shannon's I guess.

Had a thought though, since insurance as a female is always cheaper, if I tell them one of those gender confused idiots would my premiums come down?
This is my concern when I eventually buy a SSV ute, that even though I will have to pay too much due to Tasmania tax, plus Covid tax I won't be able to insure a 2009 say for the $27-$28k, even though they are all more than that to buy.
Yet I was able to insure a VR V6 ute for $7500, with Shannons.

Not sure if you can (or would even consider it with such a nice ute).
But when I was younger I would insure for 3rd party, fire and theft only. Theory being I was a car painter at the time so could fix my own car if I had a prang and all else is covered by insurance. It saved me a lot, that's for sure.

I did the same for a few years, but leaves you in a really bad position for a hit and run, or if the ‘market’ value of your vehicle is considered lower than real world value. You can’t insure for agreed value which leaves you well short in the event of fire/theft/hit & run etc.

Decided it wasn’t worth the gamble and have full comp on three cars (two limited use) and its well worth it for peace of mind.

I actually had a bloke drive straight into the front left of my VS on the freeway at 100kmph - almost pushed me off the road and swore he wasn’t at fault. I had a witness and I recorded our Verbal encounter where he admitted to be changing lanes aggressively.

Insurance co didn’t even care to view footage or speak to witness because it was a lane change accident so I was automatically in the right. I had my car assessed but they couldn’t get the parts to repair so they gave me a cash settlement (not written off and mostly cosmetic damage) and gave it back to me after they had a wheel alignment done and front end checked.

Very easy process but I don’t think that would’ve been the case if I didn’t have full comp. With 1/4 of the settlement I bought another vehicle as a donor to repair the damage.

Yeah similar thing with my accident, no parts available to repair it.

2000 Vs Ute
I had no issue with the SV with Shannons (albeit in Extreme limited). Actually rang them the other day and said there is now 1 for sale and they want 130 for it, can we up the value (slight increase on premium but worth it in my eyes).
Same thing with the Thunder, but again thats also on limited use (value hasnt really dropped though, but can see what is ment by it going down a bit each year)

I have to ask, your Maloo is the daily isnt it?
Thats where it gets tricky. And did notice that the Thunder when going to limited use (cos weekender due to work vehicle) made a massive difference.
Same age and all that so kinda comparable, except for living near Kangaroo Alley.

Yeah this is my daily, its the only car I own with full reg. But its also garaged nightly and its only a 15km trip to work where its in a secure carpark, so its not like it ever gets left anywhere or anything. I bought it to drive not to sit.

2000 Vs Ute
I guess its the unfortunately reality of wanting to have something nice and be able to drive it.
Sadly the statistics which Insurances will go off will hardly be in your favour. Gender, Age, type of car, number of accidents/claims for said combo.

I did notice when i asked about my VS for example it was going to be about 2 or 3 times more expensive with Shannons than who it is with on full comp, and that was going from "Daily" to "Limited". Needless to say, it didnt get changed over.
But it does make it harder when so many cars arent valued correctly nowadays. (such as the SV where most places would struggle to go above 20k)

Hope you do figure something out though, as its actually nice to see some vehicles actually out there being enjoyed.

Wall o words incoming....

So some updates of sorts. Didn't end up changing insurance so just continuing to get reamed by Shannons. Though my premiums did go down by whole $10 this year lol. I'm trying to remember what's happened over the last year with the car, around October I gave this car a big and well needed birthday. It copped the entire Superpro Bush catalogue coupled with new rack end, tie rods and lower control arms. Then it went off to Shockworks to finally get a set of coilovers and this really transformed the way the car drives. The shocks had been hammered for quite some time and it really showed once the new gear was in. Chris even liked my ute so much he ended up and going and buying himself a VU SS a couple of weeks later (for someone who's never owned a Holden).

Moving forward to December and I end up with an intermittent starting issue which leaves me stranded and needing to roll start it a couple of times. In an attempt to rectify this its since received new genuine starter motor, key and clutch safety switch. Touch wood its going ok currently. Moving forward to April and I finally get to fix a few more problems I'd been putting off for too long, a leaky rear main, sump gasket and a new more street friendly clutch. Seals were both genuine items and the clutch is an NPC organic which has a nice streetable stock feel whilst being rated for decent abuse and power. The previous clutch which came in the car was great when you got on it, but it was rather heavy and not great generally unless you were launching it. Also threw in some axles and a tailshaft donut both of which had also seen better days.

Now we come to 2 weeks ago and on a dark wet morning on the way to work I hit a couple of potholes and ruined both my front wheels. Somehow the tyres still held ) air (I think being semislicks with beefy sidewalls helped but felt like driving on 50c coins. They don't look that bad off the car, but had the car up on a hoist to check them and they were both so out of round when spun its not funny. So for the time being I've put the rears on the front and 2 of the stock wheels on the rear. The plan is to buy 2 new wheels for the rear in 18x9.5 +35 which should sit almost identical to the existing setup but 1" wider and allow me to run a 265/35/18. Unfortunately after the big hit from the pothole the alignment is still well up the creek, so hanging to get my wheels so I can take it to Shockworks for them to fix the alignment and tune the shocks up a little more (was planned prior to this drama). I'll try and take a photo which shows the wheel damage, but it doesn't really present as bad as it felt.

And for the meantime a photo dump.

Just curious...are you going to fit a 265 tyre on your rears so it fits under the guards? I'd have thought a 275 would be the better fit...I have never put big wheels and tyres on a VZ tho so I figure you must have your reasons...

So I know the setup quoted works and fits under the guards mainly from Chris' VU, also doing the figures it sits 2mm further out than the current setup and 6mm further inwards of a stock wheel. 265s are a bit more common cheaper than 275s too, also means I'm not pushing the boundaries on what fits too so nothing should rub regardless of how hard hard I'm driving it. Which I'd way rather than a tight 275 that may rub.
